I must have gotten a lot of odd looks on the way home in the pouring down rain.
So, a few months ago, I was looking through the Oregon Revised Statutes. For all who are not in the know, that is what Oregon calls it's laws.
I forget specifically what I was looking for but I stumbled upon this:
811.385 Depriving motorcycle or moped of full lane;
penalty
(1) A person commits the offense of depriving a motorcycle or moped of a full lane if the person operates a motor vehicle upon a roadway laned for traffic in a manner that prevents a moped operator or motorcyclist from full use of a lane.
(2) This section does not apply to operators of motorcycles or mopeds whose use of lanes is controlled by ORS 814.240 (Motorcycle or moped unlawful passing) and 814.250 (Moped or motorcycle operating more than two abreast).
(3) The offense described in this section, depriving a motorcycle or moped of a full lane, is a Class B traffic violation. [1983 c.338 §685]
That means I get my whole lane sweet pea.
So, I haven't been doing much this summer. Just been commuting.
A couple of days ago I put the liner in my jacket and switched to my winter gloves. It made for an interesting ride to church because I grabbed the two gloves on top and left the house, locking the door behind me. It turns out that I had grabbed one summer glove and one winter glove. Fortunately, one was left and the other right, so I was able to ride anyway.
Over the summer I did do a few things.
I went to the Albany Bike Night.
And I also went to the Corvallis Bike Night.
There is something cool about seeing a row of helmets somewhere, ya know?
And I pushed the limits of what can be carried on the back of a Rebel.
All in all it was a good summer.
Ta!

Nice pic of your Rebel with the stuff on it's pillion seat. I once managed a case of beer and two 2 liters of soda on mine. Bungee magic! lol
ReplyDeleteOddly enough, pics of stuff I manage to pile on the motorcycle are my favorite. I don't think I could live without my bungees!

I saw you on the bike in the rain in West Albany the other night. Can't remember if it was Tuesday or Wednesday. You were heading North on Maple. I was just turning off of Elm and saw you flash by.
ReplyDeleteThere is a question I want to run by you about parking at LBCC. Near the greenhouse by the ST building is a loading zone space. It's at the bottom of the ramp leading off the street.
What are my chances of getting cited if I park the bike there and leave it during classroom on Saturday and Sunday afternoons? Right now I park over by the Child Care lot and tennis court.
I think I remember seeing you too! To be honest I was looking at the good looking motorcycle, and the thought that it was Irondad on it was actually an afterthought ("Oh, I think I just saw Irondad"). :)
ReplyDeleteI got really wet earlier this week. There is some part of me that doesn't mind getting soggy when I am out on my motorcycle.
On the weekends, there are not that many deliveries, so you are probably going to be okay parking by the Greenhouse as long as you don't block the pedestrian walkway. It's one of those things that is not really enforced on weekends unless it is an issue.

I'm just giving fair warning. I'll be teaching at LBCC Thursday and the weekend. Warn the troops! I'm also going to try parking in the loading zone since you kind of told me not to park on the sidewalk.
ReplyDeleteInterestingly, about a decade ago, we used to be able to pull the bikes right up next to the building. Times have changed, sigh!
It's my first time here. I just saw the helmet collection there - that's my favorite collection.
ReplyDeleteThere is something nice about motorcycle helmets all lined up in a row.
